How to Make a Strong Online Tutor Profile and Intro Video

On tutoring platforms, students choose a teacher in seconds, mostly from the photo, headline and video. A strong profile brings more trial lessons.

Profile photo

  • Head and shoulders, facing the camera, smiling
  • Good light (face a window), plain background
  • No logos, text or contact details on the photo

Headline

Be specific. Instead of “Experienced teacher”, write something like “Maths tutor for O-Level students, step-by-step and patient”. Preply suggests a headline of 50 to 70 characters (Preply).

Description

  • Who you teach (age, level)
  • What you teach and how (your method)
  • Your experience and qualifications
  • What the student gets after 5 or 10 lessons

Intro video (30 seconds to 2 minutes)

  1. Record horizontally with a stable phone or webcam.
  2. Use a quiet room and clear audio.
  3. Greet the student, explain who you help and how a lesson works.
  4. Speak naturally; do not read from a script.
  5. End with an invitation to book a trial lesson.

After approval

Keep your calendar updated, reply quickly to messages and ask satisfied students for reviews. Good reviews matter a lot for new tutors.
